Since Skunkmasters opened its doors in January 2018 at 2675 N. Ventura Road, Ste. 103 – 104, the local resident, family-owned and -operated cannabis dispensary has been committed to helping the Ventura County community. As Port Hueneme’s first legal cannabis dispensary, the business has donated a combined $75,000 to local organizations and charities.
Here’s a look at some of the ways that Skunkmasters has supported Ventura County:
Local homeless shelter
Through Port Hueneme’s law enforcement, Skunkmasters donated $21,682 to a local homeless shelter. The gift purchased 100 beds, pillows, storage and bike racks, pet supplies and lunches for guests.
Port Hueneme Historical Society Museum and other local groups
A $13,680 donation was used to benefit charities and organizations including the Port Hueneme Historical Society Museum. The museum houses historical artifacts, photographs and information on the history of the Hueneme area, and Skunkmasters’ gift provided upgraded display frames. The donation also funded after-school and arts programs for area youth.
Channel Islands Harbor Lessees Association
This year, Skunkmasters provided $13,000 for the Fourth of July fireworks display through Channel Islands Harbor Lessees Association, a private, nonprofit organization created to “bolster the prosperity of the business community at the harbor.”
Mentorship program for at-risk high school students
Skunkmasters gave $10,000 to local law enforcement to help with a program that provides mentorships for local at-risk high school students. The program helps students find healthier, safer alternatives to gangs and graffiti.
Soroptimist International of Ventura
The business donated $6,500 to Soroptimist International of Ventura, a global volunteer organization “working to improve the lives of women and girls in the local community and throughout the world.” The donation was made to support Soroptimist’s campaign to “STOP Human Trafficking and Sexual Slavery,” which includes a walk and speaker panel scheduled for March 7, 2020.
Port Hueneme Police Explorers Program
Skunkmasters contributed $5,820 to the Police Explorers Program of the Port Hueneme Police Department. The respected and well-established program offers career orientation and experience for young people ages 14 to 20 who are considering entering the field of criminal justice. The donation was used to support the Explorers’ work with charities and organizations, including one that helps families in need around the holiday season and another working to end drunk and drugged driving.
Educational meetings about cannabis dispensaries
Skunkmasters donated $2,000 to help provide educational information on cannabis dispensaries in the local community town hall meeting.
Other ways Skunkmasters gives back
The business also donated to Reel Guppy Outdoors, a program that teaches families to fish for free, and has supported groups that provide education to area youth to help prevent the use of controlled drugs, as well as local races that raise money for cancer and other illnesses.
Beyond the monetary donations, Skunkmasters has always worked to educate the community about legal, safe access to and responsible use of cannabis. To help make Ventura County safer, Skunkmasters is committed to compassionate and affordable pricing, as a way to help prevent residents from seeking out unregulated cannabis operations. The company’s dedication to quality and value ensures locals have affordable access to tested and approved cannabis products from responsible licensed businesses.
Skunkmasters is passionate about demystifying legal cannabis and leading their industry. The dispensary was the sixth cannabis business in the state to receive an annual license and was voted as the best dispensary at the education and networking expo WeedCon in 2018.
Skunkmasters offers “insight” tours of their facility, to educate the public and answer questions. Staff members have hosted such tours for the Ventura County Behavioral Health Department, Port Hueneme Police Department, Thousand Oaks Police Department, Oxnard Police Department, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, city officials, residents and other groups.
